new to site, taking 40 mg reglan/day (plan to switch to dom), on accelerated protocol stopped pills 6 days ago started pumping right away - nothing yet, but getting periodic, brief stabbing pains that feel similar to letdown( breastfed 10 years ago). Do I keep pumping 6x day, if no milk - do i go back on birth control pills? sorry for long message and lots of questions

Hi Helen,

I have a couple of questions:

Which pills did you stop? Ortho 1/35 or Yasmin or something else?

How long were you on the Reglan/pills combination?

When is your baby due to arrive?

Which pump are you using?

And do you notice your nipples blanching white during your painful episodes?

When does the pain occur? During pumping? Immdiately after pumping (within minutes) or after about 1/2 hour?

Best,

I was on Yasmin/Reglan for 30 days. Actually got a few drops yesterday both hand expression and pump - using the Medela Symphony. Pains usually occur right around the time I'm due to pump again and during pumping. And yes, the nipples blanch white. Last question, would changing to dom and adding herbs help supply? thanks, helen

Still just getting only drops, Is that normal? How do I increase supply and given everyone's individual response, how long will it be before more than just drops? Th <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />anks, Helen

switching to dom and herbs would most definitely be prefered. You need to be pumping as if your pump were a newborn which means every 3 hours during the day and once during the night. You shoud see an increase on that kind of a pumping schedule. BTW the Medela Pump In Style is the recommended pump for inducing lactation.

Thanks for the reply. Will do all suggested. Will also try to get PIS pump. Thought Symphony would work as well.

Oh my goodness Helen I don't think you need to replace your pump. That is quite the system. you have. Let's wait until Lenore gets here to see if she thinks you need a PIS. I googled Medela Symphony and found this http://www.mybreastpump.com/symphony.html
HOw is your pumping schedule going?

Hi Helen,

The Symphony is a good pump. You'll need to step up your pumping schedule to every 2 hours during the day and at least once during the night between the hours of 1 AM and 5 AM to take advantage of your natural prolactin surge. Try to pump for at least 30 minutes each time. I know this schedule is a tough one but try to stick to it as much as possible. The more often you pump, the more milk your breasts will produce. Research shows that the frequency of pumping is more important than duration.

Are you renting the Symphony? If you are, you may want to consider purchasing a Pj Junior pump by LImerick. This is a new pump that I've been testing for the past 3 months. It has flexible breast shields that compress the nipple/areola while suction is applied. This is applies similar suction and pressures to a newborn at the breast. I'm very impressed with this pump. It's available through joan.ortiz@limerickinc.com Note that I do not work for this company and do not receive any renumeration from them. I purchased the pump from them that I'm testing.

Thanks for all your helpful advice. I am renting the pump, but I'll look into the other one. Will step up pumping schedule. I've been on herbs for a week, dom on order, and I'm actually getting occasional sprays. Couldn't be happier with the progress. Is it normal for milk to look more yellow in color? Otherwise all is going well. Thanks
Helen
