For hormonal balance I have been on prog. cream for a few months. Just entering fourth week of accl. pro. and found out baby is coming much earlier than we thought. Any day now as a matter of fact. My question is how prog. cream affects things. Also have concern that I will just have started pumping when baby is born. Will this cause my milk production
to grow more slowly? Should I add herbs now or wait until protocal is completed? Really want to be successful with breastfeeding. Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

Dear Mtmom,

CONGRATULATIONS on your impending arrival!!!

There was a mom on the protocols a while back who was using Dr. Lee's progesterone cream. Progesterone is used during our protocols to build breast tissue similar to what happens during pregnancy. But once you are starting to pump and bring in your milk, you'll want to stop the progesterone similar to when the placenta is expelled during birth. The reason for this is that progesterone inhibits milk supply. So although it's great for building the breast tissue it can work against you once you start pumping and you're milk is starting to come in.

Breastfeeding and lactation are quite amazing processes. You may find that you don't need your progesterone cream while breastfeeding. The mom who was using the progesterone cream while breastfeeding had a lot of problems with her milk supply until she stopped using it. So save yourself some aggravation and stop it when you start pumping OK?

Best,

Thank you so much for the help. It sounds like possibly the prog. cream may have helped rather than cause a problem. I will stop when I began pumping in a few days. Thank you Lenore and all you great ladies out there for such a helpful website.
