Dear Mtmom,
CONGRATULATIONS on your impending arrival!!!
There was a mom on the protocols a while back who was using Dr. Lee's progesterone cream. Progesterone is used during our protocols to build breast tissue similar to what happens during pregnancy. But once you are starting to pump and bring in your milk, you'll want to stop the progesterone similar to when the placenta is expelled during birth. The reason for this is that progesterone inhibits milk supply. So although it's great for building the breast tissue it can work against you once you start pumping and you're milk is starting to come in.
Breastfeeding and lactation are quite amazing processes. You may find that you don't need your progesterone cream while breastfeeding. The mom who was using the progesterone cream while breastfeeding had a lot of problems with her milk supply until she stopped using it. So save yourself some aggravation and stop it when you start pumping OK?
Best,
Lenore Goldfarb, Ph.D.,CCC,IBCLC Wife to Rob, Mom to Adam aged 13, and Ethan aged 9, both born via GS and breastfed via Regular Newman-Goldfarb Protocol.
