I had been doing pretty good with the pumping and getting milk. I was up to 6-6.5oz a day. Still taking the dom. My daughter got sick about two weeks ago with rotella and than I caught it from her. We are better now. I am just able to start pumping alot again. During the time she was sick I only had time to pump twice a day and went down to 3oz and today just got 2.5. I am hoping with getting back on the pumping I will go back up. I am using the PIS and now my milk comes out really slow, no "streams" still sprays though. Is that just because of low supple?

I also wanted to ask if anyone knew how much milk was needed a day to get the immunities and benefits of breast milk? I thought I remembered reading that a 1/2 oz a day would do it but i cant remember. That just seems low.

Jenny,
I am certainly no expert but I believe it is 4 ozs. a day to provide the needed immunities.

I got sick in December and then again in January and my supply decreased dramatically. I actually think that I was just about completely dried up because I did have to take Claritin to get rid of my cold and cough. I was able to rebuild my supply to where it was before, though. Don't worry. Even though you have gone down some you can rest assured that if you will get back to your old routine you will rebuild your milk, too.

Good luck and don't forget to drink lots. I think that is what helped me get back on track the quickest.

Jenny and Kalli I think it is closer to 1/2 oz than it is 4 oz. It doesn't take much at all.
Hang in there.

Thanks everyone <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

I have started getting back into the pumping. I seem to be building back up faster than i was in the beginning so that makes me feel a lot better. Hopefully i can keep increasing.

That makes me feel better about the four ounces. I know i can at least give that to her.

Hi Ladies,

From the literature available which seem to inducate that the immune factors remain constant throughtout lactation, and from our knowledge that early milk amounts of milk are tiny, 1/2 oz per feeding, 8 feedings in 24 hours, for a total of at least 4 oz per day should provide the immune benefits.
