Well, I nursed for almost 6 months with a Lact-aid, used dom (did the accelerated protocol), got BM, and now I think I'm winding down. I haven't nursed or pumped in weeks, but still can't quite stop taking the dom "just in case". I doubt if I pumped I'd see anything since I haven't nursed or pumped lately.

But anyway, my daughter is now eating a lot of cereal and I've decided to give her two 7 oz. bottles a day with her cereal and stop nursing and pumping. I never really saw more than 3ml per pumping and was getting quite discouraged. I'm not sure if I ever would have seen sprays, but having a toddler and a baby just really didn't allow me to pump as often as I should.

I am proud that I nursed my baby and I am proud that my body made milk for us (even though it was a very, very, very small amount). I think I knew all along that it was more for the experience and bonding than anything. I knew that I would probably never be able to feed my baby enough to meet her needs, but I did enjoy our quiet nursing times together.

I just wanted to say thank you to Lenore and to all the other wonderful women who helped me over the last few months. I couldn't have done it without you. I will be lurking and posting from time to time to offer my encouragement to other women!! Thanks again!

Thanks for sharing, you did great! 6 months is longer than I nursed my first bio child. You definitely benefited from the experience as did your baby. Well done Momma. And now you have a wealth of experience and knowledge to pass on. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

Congratulations on 6 months. Every little bit is a great accomplishment for us. You did a great thing and I know you're proud of what you accomplished.

Hey Saige,

CONGRATULATIONS on a fabulous breastfeeding experience.

Babies are the best "pumps" and it is likely that your baby received much more milk than you pumped. The reason for this is that typical pumps exert negative pressure (suction( whereas your baby exerts both negative (suction) and positive pressure (jaw and tongue movement) thereby extracting more milk.

By more importantly, there is ever so much more to breastfeeding than the milk. The bond you created with your child at the breast, the skin-to-skin contact, teeth and jaw formation, hand-eye coordination, immune protection, and so forth are gifts that will last your child a lifetime.

You did a fabulous job. Your child is lucky to have you for a mom.

Best,

Lenore Goldfarb, Ph.D.,CCC,IBCLC
Wife to Rob, Mom to Adam aged 13, and Ethan aged 9, both born via GS and breastfed via Regular Newman-Goldfarb Protocol.
