Is anyone out there nursing an infant and toddlers? How do you do it? My 4 year old still likes to nurse at night and occasionally during the day, my 2 year old 2 times a day. My now healthy 3 month old preemie is of course the priority. (He also takes formula) Should I restrict my toddlers to specific times? Should I be concerned about them just sucking an empty breast. Should I encourage weaning? Where we live, nursing until kids enter kindergarten is not that unusual, but I worry about depleting what has been an adequate milk supply.

I would not nurse them until right after the 3 month old has nursed. Because you are right.. the 3 month old is the priority. And the baby should NOT have to take formula

Hi Swelmom,

At this point your 3 month preemie has reached term right? So Nona is right, formula is not the best thing. If you breastfeed your baby first, and then your 2 year old and then your 4 year old but stagger them so that your 3 month old has priority, you should be fine.

Best,
