I'm breastfeeding an infant and 2 toddlers ( all adopted). I also pump (with a pis) a great deal to try to keep my milk flowing. Especially after pumping my nipples would be very large and very long and misshapen, but they usually returned to normal. Now they seem to be staying that way permanently ( I swear I resemble a cow) I expect to be nursing for at least a few more years. WIll they return to a normal size and shape when I'm done? I know it seems like a petty thing and perhaps a little vain, but as wonderful as the BFexperience is it is sometimes frustrating and feels like its all I do. Thanks

Hi Swelmom,

Congratulations on your little ones and on a fabulous breastfeeding experience!

Your hormones are likely keeping your nipples ripe and ready so to speak. But once you wean, everything should return as they were for the most part. Nipples tend to stay a little bigger but nothing drastic. It's important to wean slowly so that your breasts have an opportunity to replace your milk making structures with fatty tissue which is responsible for the size and shape of our breasts.

Best,
