It was suggested for me to post here and see what Lenore thinks. I had to have a scan of my gallbladder yesterday and they injected me with Nuclear Isotopes. They said I can't bf for 48 hrs, or even hold Kendyn very much. He's 5 months old tomorrow and we do attachment parenting, so this is killing me and he's not taking to the bottle very well at all. He's been bf since the day after we brought him home at 2 1/2 months. I thought about cancelling the test, but I just ordered Dom to help get a full supply and thought I should get it over with while he's still used to formula (in the lact-aid). Anyway, do I really need to wait 48 hrs? Someone said that when they were told that for another test, that after research it was actually not true. I'd love this to be the case. Thank you in advance.

Hi,
Yep. Nuclear Isotopes are a no, no. Ideally they should have given you time to pump and freeze. But 48 hours is not a big deal honey. Don't worry. What bottles are you trying to use? You need one with a nipple that is slow flow (one holed) and has a wide base like the AVENT.
Don't sweat it. He should pop right back on the boob when it's safe to do so. In the meantime, if you're not allowed to hold him, would it be possible for your mom or sister or some other female that he knows come over? Have them wear one of your previously worn shirts or something else with your scent on it so your baby will feel more comfortable.
Best,

Thank you, Lenore.
We've made it the 48 hrs <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" /> I had Avent bottles here from when I was using them when we first got Kendyn...so I used them. He hates them, though. He spits so much milk out <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" />
I didn't have any one to help except my dh and older sons. I tried not to hold him very much.
I really do wish I'd have had time to pump. I don't know that I would've had much, because I don't produce a whole lot yet (ordered dom last week), but something would be better than nothing. I will tell the dr about this (them not preparing me).
Thank you. Blessings

Hi,
Congratulations on making it through the 48 hours. If he's spitting up it could be due to overfeeding. Be careful to burp your little one often. And yes, you should give that guy a piece of your mind in writing.
Be polite but to the point and let him know that exclusively breastfeeding babies need time to adjust to alternative feeding methods and that mothers require time to store appropriate quantities of their breastmilk. Formula feeding carries known risks that you would have liked to have avoided with advanced preparation time. Then thank him for his time and consideration for reading your letter.
