Hi,
We will be adopting again this year, hopefully a baby girl from Guatemala. Altbough I was ultimately unable to breastfeed our now-9-month-old baby boy after using accelerated protocol (no matter what I tried, he was NOT interested), I am planning to try again. This time I will have enough time to do regular protocol. My question is, to start the birth control pills (I have my script) do I wait until first day of my cycle, or do I just start taking them?

My OB told me to wait until the Sunday after my period to start the first pill. You only take the active pills, not the white ones.

You do not have to wait. YOu aren't taking them for birth control purposes. YOu do only take active pills. Start anytime.

As Lalle said, since the birth control pill is not taken for contraception but rather to develop the milk making structures of your breasts you can start them any time. However, many moms find that if they start on the 6th day after their period starts, they have less break through bleeding.
