I'm not sure I'm posting this question on the right section of the boards, but I'm new here. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" /> Anyway, my husband and I just became activated with American Adoptions, and I hope to breastfeed. I breastfed our son, and it was a wonderful experience. Anyway, my question is how do you know where to start with the breastfeeding protocol" when you have no idea when the baby will be coming? I mean, we could get a call tomorrow saying that the baby will be born within 24 hours, or we could get a call tomorrow saying the baby's due date is five months from now.

Hi Allison!
We are also about to become active with American Adoptions. Which program are you doing?
I started the regular protocol right away, and will stop the BCP either when we are matched with a baby 4 weeks away, or when I feel like I need to stop the meds.
Lenore... Is there a max recommended time to do the regular protocol?
Currently, I've been on for 5 1/2 months. We are waiting to hear if we will match with a couple, and find out on Tuesday. The baby is due in 6 weeks, and I would stop the BCP in the next couple of weeks to start pumping if we do match.
Good luck!

Hi Mamapersoff,

Women have been on the birth control pill for years and same goes for the domperidone for some gastric patients so theoretically, there is not specific limit. I was on domperidone for just over a year the first time and the second time for more than 3 years. Prior to that I had been on a similar birth control pill on and off for about 15 years. No adverse effects but as they say I'm an "n" of 1.

How did the match go?

Best, Lenore

Thanks for the info. I'll just keep truckin' along with my meds since we had a failed match. :0(
The couple decided to parent the baby after she had to be induced four weeks early due to low fluid levels. So we're back to square... hmmm... two? My dh decided he doesn't want to go with the national agency after all because he's concerned with the ICPC taking two or more weeks.
Has anyone had it take that long with their out-of-state adoption?
