I was wondering if anyone had experience they could share with me about the SNS - which brand is the best, how easy it is to use, whether that alone can induce lactation, etc.
I'm new here and I'm still trying to decide what I'm going to do.
I have not used Medelas SNS. I used the Lact-aid exclusively. With a little practice it is fairly easy to use and doesn't flow freely so baby must suck. It also doesn't leak and as long as you make sure the top is pushed in tight I never had any problems with it. As for if that alone can induce lactation depends. But chances are it will not provide much of a supply just doing that. I had previously nursed 2 bio children when we adopted our daughter. It had been about 11 years since I had nursed. Anyway I started her off at birth using the lact-aid and I was taking more milk tincture and drinking Mothers milk tea. I produced some but not much milk. I wasn't pumping or anything just using the lact-aid for each feeding. I knew she was getting some breastmilk because she had occasional seedy poops. I add dom to my regime and upped my production to maybe 1/3. I eventually went on the accelerated protocol and when it was time to pump I was pumping 1-2 oz at every session. I very quickly was able to get rid of formula all together. My daughter was eating solids at this point as well. If I had it to do over again I would skip my earlier attempts and do the protocol from the start. HTH

I tried the SNS. I did not like it. Its smallest tube is to big and allows to much milk flow. You want less milk flow so the baby can work the breast to empty it properly and good stimulation to build your milk supply up
Adoptive mommy to 4 , Last 2 adopted nursed. Youngest nursed till she was 5! Raising 2 grandbabies, as infants they were raised on donor breast milk
The SNS has a solid reusable container with opening on the bottom where the tubing is attached. It can open unexpectedly. WIdely sold.
The Lact-aid uses disposable non-solid bags that are used once and thrown out. The opening is at the top which prevents spillage. Obtained by www.lact-aid.com

I used the SNS and did not like it. I never had trouble with the bottle opening on me, but it did seem that the smallest tubes were not small enough. I also had a lot of trouble keeping the tube in my daughter's mouth while nursing. If I have to use a supplementer again, I plan on getting the lact-aid.
