Hello all! This is my first time to post.
We are in the process of adopting our second child, a little boy due any day! I induced lactation (following a different protocol) with my daughter, and nursed only for about 3 months because my supply was so low, and I was sore the whole time. I worked with a lactation consultant-known to be one of the best in the area-and she said the baby had a perfect latch. She couldn't figure out why the soreness persisted.

This time around, I took Yasmin for almost 2 months along with the Dom. Within one week of pumping 6x a day and adding Fenugreek & Blessed Thistle, I was pumping 6 ounces a day! My milk has continued to increase, and now 6 weeks later, I'm getting 21-22 ounces a day. I recently quit taking Fenugreek because I ran out, but more so because it gave me bad gas. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" /> I'm still taking the Blessed Thistle some and still taking the full dose of Dom each day. The problem is, my nipples are still sore, one more than the other. I've lowered the vacuum and speed on my pump, and that helped a little, but they are still red and irritated. Any suggestions??? I'm a bit nervous of how sore I already am with the baby coming any day. Unfortunately, I will not be able to start nursing him until he is 2-3 days old and we bring him home from the hospital.
Since I'm pumping anywhere from 3-5 ounces each time, I'm planning to pump after nursing since a newborn doesn't take near that much at a feeding. Any ideas how long I should do that? Has anyone else had a similar experience with this amount of milk? I'm wondering if my supply is likely to continue to increase with what the baby needs and if I'll have a full supply. I have lots of milk stored that I would like to give to a friend who has to quit nursing for cancer treatment. I used the SNS some with my daughter and really disliked it. I'm hoping I do not have to use it with the baby boy. Sorry, one more question. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" /> Do you think I should continue taking the Dom and herbs the entire time I am nursing?

Any advice would be much appreciated!!! Thanks!

hi there! I had an incredible amount of nipple soreness from the pump, so bad at times that i slept shirtless/ sheetless....i pumped a little over five weeks by the time the baby arrived i was okay, no problems while nursing, etc. Used a TON of lanisoh (lanolin) each time and also expressed some milk afterwards and rubbed it into my nipples. started nursing my daughter at day 3 when we were able to bring her home...i was at about 16 ounces a day, so i think you are doing wonderful! My supply increased once my daughter began nursing, and i was able to nurse for 4 months without supplement...at that time i had to add formula inbetween nursing. i did continue the domperidone and herbs the entire time, only stopping once i began to wean my daughter. best of luck, so excited for your new little boy on the way!!!

Thanks for your response! That's so encouraging to hear that the soreness went away for you when nursing. Did you have to pump any after nursing your daughter those first weeks at all? Did you continue to use the Lanisoh when nursing? I hope I can go 4 months without supplementing like you did! That's wonderful!!!

i nursed without pumping for six weeks....at which time i unfortunately had to return to work part time. On my work days I pumped three times a day (work 10-12 hour shifts) Meanwhile, my daughter was feeding from my stored milk supply. I did continue to use the Lanisoh for the first three weeks of actual breast feeding, they say Lanisoh is a-okay to use while breast feeding. After those first weeks i didn't need it at all! With the milk supplly you are getting now I bet you will have great success...especially as the baby is able to extract milk better than the pump!
