Just getting started - we are expecting a baby via Gestational Surrogate in August.
The problem: Both my DH and my dr are against my taking the Dom.
My DH read all the info about the dom, and then went on line, and found negatives. He is against my taking it, and doesn't want me to use it if I breastfeed my milk, as he isn't comfortable taking the slightest chance of any issues.
Also, I was able to get the bcps from my doc, but no Dom - she's not comfortable rx'g it. So that's two people who don't want me to take the Dom.
How can I stimulate milk production? I am taking the bcps right now... and was thinking I could stop 6 weeks out, and start the herbs and oatmeal. Please advise!
Thanks
Robin

Robin I don't think that will work. The bcp doesn't do anything on it's own. It has to be taken in combination with the dom to work for induction. I am curious as to what info your DH read. The only negatives I know of with dom are not with the pill but intravenous. What reason deos your Doctor give for her discomfort at prescribing it?

Robin you can also go here http://www.asklenore.info/breastfeeding/abindex.html
Scroll down to Domperidone and there is all kinds of real information on dom listed here. Lenore is highly educated and has done lots of research. She is very well informed and works closely with Dr. Newman. I know she would never recommend something that would be harmful.

I agree that no one who is advocate of breastfeeding would recommend anything that is harmful.
The first doctor I went to was uneducated about induced lactation, and despite that I provided the printouts, she didn't take them to read. This tells me she wasn't open to it, and I will consider that in my choice of OB/GYN visits in the future. So I went to the 2nd doctor - the RE we used, and she definitely supports induced lactation, but, again, hasn't heard of the N-G protocols and wasn't sure why one should take Dom over Metaclo... I'm having to educate her. She's referred me to a certified lactation consultant. I'm going to see what they say, and maybe have her talk to them. I will also chat with the OB my GS is using, to see what she thinks.
I am nervous about having any drugs in my system, but know this is probably the only way for me to contribute a majority of the food my little one gets. My DH is wary of overseas pharmacies and doesn't like the idea that any drug would be in the breastmilk, no matter how small... not sure whether bf'g is more important than a small amount of drug in the milk...
Thanks
Robin

Robin,

They use Domperidone for infants as well. Those with gastro problems. You might explain that to your husband. As far as trusting overseas drugstores. Globaldrug is the one we ladies have used for years. You can also get a script and get it from Canada if you would like. Lalle is right. The domperidone has to be added to the pills to make the changes in your breasts

Thanks Nona, I will certainly be chatting with my dh tonight. I feel in my heart that the baby and I will be ok with the dom, if I used it, and really want to bf, so I will be chatting with him about everything I've heard here, and what I learned from my phone conversation with the local IBCLC at the hospital where I work. She confirmed everything everyone says here and on this website, so that is good.
Thanks again.
