Hi, everyone! I've posted a couple of messages - we're expected to adopt a newborn towards the end of July/early August. Has anyone else had luck with such a short time period? Did you go straight to the domperidone or start with Yasmin and dom? (FYI, I did nurse my son for 3 1/2 yrs and just weaned him about a year ago.)

Thanks!

Mariah the best course of action is to do the accelerated protocol. You can find that here http://www.asklenore.info/breastfeeding/induced_lactation/accelerated_protocol.html
Many Moms have had great success with it. If you can do 30-60 days it would be plenty of time. I started with just herbs, then added dom and finally I went on the accelerated protocol. If I had it to do over I would start with the protocol. I had great success with it. smile

This isn't a concern for MariahDC, but Laurie when you were on the accelerated protocol did your milk supply dry up? If so, then what did you do while waiting for the protocol to start working... for milk for your baby?

I didn't notice my supply drying up. I was nursing with the lactaid at the time all except first thing in the morning. But it doesn't seem like my daughter was taking any more formula than usual.

Well, I decided to try the full accelerated protocol and just got my Yasmin prescription today. There's a compounding pharmacy near me that will have the domperidone tomorrow... I should have enough time to take the Yasmin for 45 days or so before stopping. Since I have a small bit of milk, is it okay to keep pumping through this? I guess so since Lalle said she nursed with the Lact-Aid through it...?

No Mariah you shouldn't pump while on the protocol. If you already had a baby at your breast we wouldn't tell you to stop nursing but since you don't it is best to have no stimulation of your breasts until you stop the Yasmin. Then you will continue the dom., add herbs and start pumping round the clock.

Okay, I've decided to do the Accelerated Protocol. I was just going to take Fenugreek and Blessed Thistle while pumping like crazy. Well, I can't keep up this pumping-round-the-clock for a couple of months (or more)...! I'm a terrible pumper - always was, even when I was nursing a bio newborn. And I decided that I'll let the meds do their job while I spend my time getting ready for a baby instead of pumping, pumping, pumping, waking to pump, etc. So I'll start the Yasmin and Dom tomorrow. I'm a little nervous - like I'm going to fall over dead from taking an FDA-banned drug - LOL! Anyway, I'll keep you guys posted. wink

There are no problems from the domperidone pills. THey are even given to babies. Its the Domperidone IV that they have had problems with. Don't worry... you will be fine taking it. smile

Mariah,

I too; was worried about the meds. I did dom alone last time but had poor milk production. This time I took Yasmin as well as dom and I feel just fine. I went through a period of leg cramps similar to what I got in pregnancy but they seem to be lessening as the warm weather arrives.

I originally was only going to do 60 days but since there was no baby in sight and pumping is a drag; I decided to stay on longer. In pregnancy you lactate if you miscarry after 4 months so I figure if I'm on that long; it's an extra advantage (not that many women don't do just fine on 60 days).

I'm on day 105 now and hopefully we will be matched soon. Hoping to go to at least 120 days.

I didn't feel sudden changes in my breasts but as each week goes by I do feel more fullness even without much size change so maybe a longer term approach works well for me.

Dr Newman was pretty firm about sticking with the Yasmin and seeing as how with migraines; I wasn't really recommended to take any BCP; if Yasmin agrees with me; maybe it's the right thing to stick with it.

Patience
