Hi, I have not been here in a long while...too busy chasing a 21 month old...that still nurses, BTW! Yes, my DS does still nurse and it is still wonderful!

My DH and I are planning on beginning the foster-to-adopt program. It begins in August and goes for 10 weeks. I suppose we could be placed with a baby any time after that 10 week period. I am not sure we'll really be ready then so we could buy a little more time if we wanted. Our son will only be 24 months. We'll just pray about His best timing.

Anyway, I just started on Yasmin again yesterday. I have been on Dom since Sept. of 2004. I weaned myself down to taking just 1 tablet per day, though. I do still have enough left to work back up to the 8 pills per day and then I'll need to order more.

I just read that there is another BCP that you are recommending over the Yasmin. Can you tell me more about it and why it is better, please.

Also, with my first, I did not produce a full supply and always had to supplement. This time, I was thinking that if I had more breastmilk making tissue, that I would have a better shot at a greater supply. So, is it progesterone that makes the breastmilk making tissue? Any of my girlfriends that had to take progesterone at the beginning of their pregnancies experienced major breast changes and subsequently had tons of breastmilk. Coincidence? Although, my sister did not have to take progesterone and she has produced a FULLLLLL supply and even enough to pump an extra bottle a day for my babe. So, all of that to say that while I know that extra progesterone is not necessary for everyone...I wonder if it would be what I need to accomplish more milk making.

Also, I wanted to find out if it is okay to continue nursing my DS while on the regular protocol...if he'll continue that is. He only nurses in the morning now and I know that I can't be producing more than about 2 ozs/day now. At most (atleast 8 months ago) I was producing anywhere from 8-15 ozs/day!

So my questions are:
1. Which BCP is preferrable and why.
2. Tell me all I need to know about progesterone.
3. Can I still nurse DS (if he wants to) while on the reg. protocol?

Thanks so much!

Peace & Blessings~

Yes you can still nurse your son. But your supply will dry up completely while on the protocol. So have a supplimenter available. Okay... the one that is recommended is ortho 1/35. They have been getting better results with this pill because the progestrone is different than in the Yasmin. Also yes you can add a 2.5 provera progesterone with it. It does make faster changes. Oh and of course do not forget your domperidone

Thanks, Nona!

It is sad news that I will dry up completely... I know that a supplementer will not work for us at this point. My son will think it is a toy and milk would be EVERYWHERE. I think, knowing that my milk will dry up completely, that I will just be on the pill this month (Yasmin) and begin the protocol next month. That way, I can begin the Ortho that is now recommended and still have one more month to nurse my son. Although, with taking the Yasmin, my milk may dry up anyway. So sad. I have LOVED it so much!

Thanks again~

Kalli, the pill is what dries up your milk. But just because your milk may dry up completely doesn't mean your son will stop nursing. He may continue to nurse for comfort. My son still nurses once a day before bed. There is a tiny bit of milk still there but mostly he is just pacifying himself.

How often is he nursing? If you can keep him nursing through the protocol he could be a great asset for bringing in your milk for the baby> You may end up tandem nursing. smile
