I've been so busy with our new baby and my 5 year old that I haven't had a chance to get onto this website in a very long time! Breastfeeding is going great! My daughter is 2 months old now and I have a full milk supply! And she is a big girl too- off the charts for height and weight.

I am thinking about weaning the domperidone and was wondering if anyone had advice about that. Does the milk supply usually decrease significantly when you cut back the domperidone?

Here is my induced lactation history: I didn't have much time before the baby was born, so I decided not to do the protocol. I started out taking just the fenugreek and blessed thistle and pumping, but only would get a drop of milk. So, I stopped the herbs and ordered the domperidone. The baby was born before the domperidone arrived, so I nursed her with the lact-aid. Nursing a baby instead of using a pump made quite a difference. After 1 week I was able to pump 1/2 an ounce. Then the domperidone arrived and it really helped my supply to pick up. I am still taking 3 tablets of domperidone 3 times each day, but would love to cut back. I really don't like taking medication, and have a hard time even remembering to take it.

So, any advice from all you experienced moms would be much appreciated!!

Thanks,
Katie

Katie, sounds like you are doing great!!! You can try to gradually wean off the dom I would suggest dropping 10 mg from the morning dosage wait a week and see if it is affecting your supply. IF not try to drop 10 off the next dosage waiting a week to see if supply is diminished and so on. If at any time you see a decrease then add back the amount you were taking away and continue on that.
So 10 from the morning wait, if fine then 10 from the afternoon wait and if good 10 from the evening etc.... Super gradual and looking for any decrease is the key.

I weaned off the dom after the first month of BF. However I had a full milk supply (never used a Lact Aid or supplemented) and had done the protocol for 6 months. I did just what others suggested and just gradually weaned off but continued to take Fenugreek and Blessed Thistle for another month. By the time my daughter was two months old I wasn't taking any dom or herbs. My daughter is now 7 1/2 months old but I still keep dom and the herbs handy just in case.
